Every year New Yorkers embrace all things French when NYC sets the scene for the most memorable French fête of the year, aka French National Day, aka Bastille Day. Francophiles, Francophones and all of NYC’s French populace will celebrate Bastille Day on Sunday, July 14, 2019. NYC commemorates the start of the French Revolution on July 14, 1789 with Bastille Day celebrations of French culture across the city.
1. Bastille Day on 60th Street
Celebrate France’s national holiday in true French form with a “fête populaire” on 60th Street from Fifth Avenue through Lexington Avenue. This street celebration is jampacked with French food, music, arts and crafts, and live events and performances. There’s something for everyone to enjoy. Oui oui! The French Institute Alliance Française’s Bastille Day fête is Sunday, July 14 from 12-5 p.m.
2. French Consulate Bastille Day Party
Head to Central Park for the French day party hosted every year by the Consulate General of France, New York. This chic party is free with registration and kicks off at The Central Park Loeb Boathouse on Sunday, July 14 from 6-11 p.m. Bring your appetite and your dancing shoes, because it includes French food and wines, live music and dancing. 3. French Restaurant Week
Acclaimed restaurants across the tri-state area will participate in French restaurant week from July 8-21 with special menus and promotional prices, so you can enjoy the best French cuisine NYC has to offer. Reserve your table now ... and yes, berets are required.
4. FIAF Summer in Provence Tasting
This Bastille Day, wine like the French with a wine tasting showcasing the flavors of Provence. You’ll sample wines from Château d’Esclans, Château de la Clapière and Miraval, along with French-approved beer, cocktails and cheese. Tickets are just $30 for the tasting, which includes 3 wines, 1 beer, 1 cocktail, plus cheese and charcuterie.
5. The French American Yacht Club’s Bastille Day Sail
On Saturday, July 13, the French American Yacht Club will host its second annual Bastille Day sail. NYC boat owners will set sail Sunday afternoon from Pier 25. The sail launches at 2 p.m. and ends around 4 p.m. Remember to wear your red, white and blue! Even if you don’t have a boat, you can watch the action from the pier, because why not?
